ROLE PURPOSE:

Save the Children Egypt of implementing an education project entitled Addressing Immediate Education (and Child Protection) Needs in Refugee-hosting Communities in Egypt’The project aims to improve access to quality formal and non-formal education in a protective learning environment for vulnerable school-aged boys and girls from Syria and Egypt. The project works in four governorates in Greater Cairo (Al Obour, 6th October, 10thRamadan and Nasr City) in 20 public schools and 5 community schools. This position will support integration and mainstreaming gender equality across key program interventions and provide the team with key support functions at the project level ensuring gender sensitive programing and promoting gender equality.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Provide support to the project team

  • Support design and implementation of key interventions ensuring gender equality is mainstreamed across program interventions, in collaboration with the Project Manager and technical staff
  • Revise materials and tools to ensure that gender equality is mainstreamed across project interventions, in collaboration with technical staff
  • Analyze and ensure the interventions are gender sensitive and responds to target group needs
  • Support in updating and sharing with staff recent developments and knowledge tools in the areas of interventions.
  • Develop and provide core trainings and awareness raising materials on gender equality to key project stakeholders including refresher trainings for staff
  • Provide support to Project Manager in adapting and improving  the project’s gender equality action plan
  • Conduct literature review of gender equality challenges in Egypt and in Egyptian schools

Monitoring and reporting on gender

  • Work in collaboration with Monitoring, Evaluation, and Accountability and Learning (MEAL) staff to capture gender sensitive information as related to the project’s indicators, including improving indicators to be more gender sensitive.
  • Conduct key gender equality assessments, analysis and accountability activities, in collaboration with MEAL staff
  • Provide and support the writing and revision of reports



Networking and Coordination

  • Lead on capturing key learnings related to gender equality from the project, working in collaboration with the rest of the project team and key stakeholders.
  • Liaise with key national and internationals stakeholders, international NGOs, UN partners and donors to facilitate and enhance learning and sharing of resources, knowledge and experience on gender equality
  • Attend conferences and seminars as required
  • Represent Save the Children in the relevant working groups as assigned by supervisor.
  • Develop and maintain strong internal relationships with the Project team, Program Quality and Development staff, and Finance and Support Services teams to advance gender equity priorities

 Knowledge management and knowledge sharing

  • Provide brief updates on the development of gender equality related happenings.
  • Provide assistance in data collection, compiling lessons learned and case studies/success stories establishing indicators to support knowledge sharing.
  • Develop key messages and materials to support senior staff discussions on gender equality with MoE and other stakeholders
  • Participate in gender equality  community of practice nationally or at a regional level, and collaborate with internal working groups and the Program Quality and Development team to bring project learning on gender equality to other teams
  • Perform other work related outputs as requested by the Project Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree in Gender studies, Political Sciences, Social Sciences or related field
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience at the national or international level in the field of gender related education projects
  • Good reporting and writing skills is a must
  • Good computer skills is required
  • Fluency in both English and Arabic (spoken and written) is required
  • Experience with refugee/marginalized communities desired
  • Commitment to Save the Children values and Child Safeguarding
  • Strong facilitation skills and overall interpersonal skills
  • Experience with disaster risk reduction programming
  • Experience creating engaging communications materials showcasing changes in gender equality
