ROLE PURPOSE:
The Child Protection Advisor plays a leading role in shaping child protection technical strategy, in line with SCI Egypt’s strategic priorities, and for ensuring child protection interventions are of a high technical quality. Working with teams across the organisation, the Child Protection Advisor provides leadership in building and supporting internal capacities and mechanisms on child protection, including capacity building and coaching of staff and partners. A key element will include developing close working relationships with Program and Project, based in Cairo, Assuit and Alexandria.  The role will contribute to project and proposal development, as well as provide advice to ensure communications development and products adhere to protection standards.  The Advisor will also play a critical role in networking and relationship building with key stakeholders at national and local levels, and provide direct technical support to national level agencies on selected initiatives.  

Current thematic priorities for this position include Violence Against Children, and Strengthening Child Protection Systems, and child protection mainstreaming across other sectors of interventions. The position is Cairo based, and includes regular travel to Save the Children Egypt’s program locations across Egypt, particularly to the Assuit field office and to Alexandria.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
In collaboration with the Director-Program Development and Quality, provide technical leadership on SCI Egypt’s Child Protection programming and practice:

Country program strategy and reporting
  • Develop and update child protection technical strategies, in line with SCI Egypt’s strategic priorities, and SCI global child protection initiatives
  • Contribute to SCI country program planning and reporting on child protection thematic priorities

External networking and technical support
  • Provide technical support and training for national level partners on selected initiatives
  • Develop and strengthen relationships with partners, government authorities, INGOs, UN agencies, networks and other actors to ensure linkages and alignment for SCI programming on selected program priorities, in consultation with Program Managers and project teams

Program quality and development
  • Provide technical support to advance core child protection strategies, in line with identified priorities
  • Review, revise and implement a biannual plan of technical support to for project teams and partners, to advance specific priorities
  • Provide hands on capacity building and support of staff and partners to support initiatives aiming to strengthen child protection systems
  • Refine SC’s approaches to addressing violence of children (education, health, youth development), provide support to project teams in implementing approaches, and ensure lessons learned and evidence on effectiveness is captured and documented
  • Provide technical support to ensure the effective implementation, documentation and evidence building around child protection programming within Sponsorship funded programs in Assuit
  • Provide quality capacity building for staff and partners on core methods and practices
  • Contribute to fundraising and proposal development
  • Ensure recognised international good practice and SCI policies are applied in work with children
  • Strengthen program learning and documentation on child protection, in collaboration with the MEAL Manager
  • Contribute to safe practice in the development of communications products, in collaboration with the Communications Manager

Internal mechanisms and reporting
  • Develop and maintain strong internal relationships with Program Managers, Project teams, Program Quality and Development staff, and Finance and Support Services teams to advance child protection priorities
  • Compiling a concise monthly activity report, and quarterly outcome report
  • Other duties as directed

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required
  • Five years experience in a child protection programming in in a humanitarian and development program context
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including excellent internal consultation and liaison skills; facilitation and coaching skills
  • Understanding of and commitment to principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child
  • Excellent analytical and creative abilities with strong results orientation
  • Fluency in English and Arabic (spoken and written) is required
  • Commitment to Save the Children values and Child Safeguarding
